When people step up into another level, oh how easy it is to look down on the people behind them.

To have their noses so high up the sky, they can't see what's in front. Walking by faith takes on a new meaning.

Yes, the scenery is better 'up there', we can have a wider scope of view. However, at the same time, we no longer can as see clearly as we used to, the things which are going on 'down there'.

Great leaders, like Joe, simply walk down from where they are, to grasp the concept of a situation, go back up again to lead the people. Hence, people look up to such leaders.

Insomias are a total waste of time, when you are physically lethargic yet mentally hyper. So all you can do is lie on your bed and think of unnecessary things.

Thousands of thoughts went through my mind.

I suddenly missed W389. Feel like I'm in the wilderness now. Gone is Joe's sheltering and shepherding. He's really selfless and sacrificed a lot for us. *RESPECT*

I need more people like that in my life - people who totally ignore the pessimistic side of me. Permission to say "Shut up" in my face the next time you hear me rant and whine. =P

If Steph sees this, I'm sure she'll be the first to SHOUT that in my face.

Back to Joe, he inspires me to break through in many areas and do things I never thought I can. For that I'm really grateful to him.

HACK the Doubt

 

Sometimes it seems that people believe in me more than I believe in myself...

People have been telling me "You can one la!!!"

Honestly, many times I doubt myself. But heck, I just do it anyway. I can be very rebellious to myself. =P

Someone once told me that "faith and doubt come hand in hand". The greater your faith... The greater your doubt.

Heck, what can be worse than pronouncing "kueh" instead of "key" for the word "quay" in front of the whole class and falling flat on my face on the sand pit during a long jump competition.

LOL...... So me right?

(Ok la... A lot of things can be worse than that lol...)

We are more than conquerors in Christ!!!

Thank goodness wed's orchestra prac went relatively well for me. I find myself becoming more calm + composed now playing cello alone... Probably kena tekaned too many times, become immuned now haha.

Be thankful for tekans.

Eric commented that I've improved too. Nice hearing it from him. Hehe. Wanna do the best I can.

Went over to Garvin's house to practise keyboard with the guitarists... My first time combining with them (or any other guitarists) and I sure have lots of room for improvement. ("All of us start somewhere." Thx =P)

Lots lots...

So not used to playing without melody. And it seems funny to bang on the keyboard just to produce sounds.

Probably just need a little getting-used-to.

Mind's saturated now...

The day after a holiday is always quite terrible.

Didn't do well for cello lesson today... Really hard to focus. Anyway teacher taught me "phantom" and "starwars", our orchestra pieces.

Will be a lone cellist for prac tmr... Hope I can survive.

Realised something today. Steph and Elgin have been telling me the same thing.

Steph: Don't belittle yourself!!!         

Elgin: Don't look down on yourself.

Hmmmm... Ok. Problem with me is probably this - if I don't think I play VERY good, then I think I don't play well. Probably expect too much from myself......

Have to start telling myself this again  -> "If you're at Level 1, do your best at Level 1 first, before proceeding to Level 2."

Both of them also commented that the sound I produced on my instruments is very FLOATY. Hahahaha. Oh man... Probably too used to playing for myself and for the 4 walls that I don't dig in hard enough.

Perhaps it's because I'm always in my own world when I play music and the sound is probably a reflection of that... Or perhaps it's because I don't like too much tension on the strings... Feel painful for them lol...

Anyway, I think those are really good points which I have to take note and improve on.

I love holidays!

Went to Steph's house to learn keyboard from her in the morning. Things looked good so will probably be playing for zone's camp in June. *Leaping with excitement in my heart*

That would be a baby step towards my dream.

Went over to join my cg @ Sentosa after that.

Went for dinner @ Chinatown (very Joe LOL...), which would probably be my last dinner with them.

Tried to contain my tears as I walked home. Parting is difficult as we have to reel in the heavy anchor which attaches us to a place/person, carry it, and move on.

That's why we have to be strong. =P

Went to watch ACJC's CO performance @ SCH with Elgin... Haven't heard CO pieces for years. Lol... But Cello is still the nicest sounding instrument in whatever orchestra hahaha.

Today's orchestra prac was horrible for me. So felt like packing up and leave right there and then while 'playing' Phantom...... 'Playing' cos all along I was just trying to catch up and find the right notes... It was like squeezing an elephant through a HDB door.

Playing music can be a torture. It's either all or nothing. It can either make my day or spoil it totally. Sigh.

Anyway, I shall not complain and just have to improve... Thanks guys for the encouragement. I needed that. :)

From what I've observed (not factual), most materialistic people don't know that they are one. Probably cos they seem to need everything?

We live in a world of instant gratification. "I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW!!!" We don't like to wait too long for something.

For eg, when we pray for something and it doesn't happen like, the next day, do we forget about it or do we press on?

Playing music teaches me that there is NO shortcuts to achieve something great. We have to start from the very basic and take baby steps up.

Now you may think I'm digressing a lot. What has this gotta do with being materialistic?

It sure is ok to buy stuff and pamper yourself... (^;^)v However we gotta take a step back and ask "Am I actually trying to fill an empty void in my life?" To gain that temporary satisfaction by wanting to buy so many things.

Had the most stressful piano lesson today. Teacher drilled on my worst section - scales. Said that my basic foundation is not there. =( Yup... So gotta practise from the very basic C MAJOR till I get my fingering right. =(

Exam is around 10 weeks away, which means 10 lessons away. Gotta maximize the quality of each lesson from now on... I.e gotta prepare well before each lesson.

Teacher has been giving me 10 extra minutes for almost every lesson. I really mustn't let her down.

(And Little Giant! Teacher mentioned about your sis. She passed Grade 8! Hehe.)

Thank God for good music teachers... Cello teacher is patient and encouraging. Piano teacher is not exactly patient and encouraging but she gives very constructive comments and pushes me a lot (i.e pressurizes me). Maybe cos she's a mum hehe.

A good teacher makes you love what you are doing, which in turn instills in you self-discipline and self-motivation (JJC motto: SDSM) to want to improve. Hope so. =P

Do what you love and love what you do.

Sickening.

Woke up on Saturday morning to discover I was running a fever high of 38.3. A bad start to the day made everything else worse thereafter.

Woke up on Sunday to discover I was almost recovered. Got complacent, met up with a few friends and enjoyed the night together. It was a great time spent after so long. Hahahahaha...

Woke up today to discover I was actually not quite recovered. Took leave, consulted a doctor and stayed home.

Life is full of ups and downs? =P

Question of the day:

HOW MUCH DO YOU TRUST YOUR DOCTOR?

For me, due to unsatisfying past experiences, I only have trust of Level 2 or 3 on a scale of 10.

I wish they'd stop issuing painkillers so carelessly before finding out the actual problem. Those painkillers simply silence the underlying problem which is screaming out for help. Analogically speaking, it's like burying alive a man trapped in a hole. When the man is eventually covered up, you can't hear his screams and you assume it's peace. But the man is still inside, dead or alive, there's no denying.

Pain, as I've understood, is our body's way of bringing to our attention the malfunction of some body parts. Since they can't speak for themselves, pain is the indicator.

Pain makes you draw your hand away when in contact with hot objects, it prevents excessive blood loss due to cuts and so forth. In a nutshell, pain forces us to take action immediately before anything worse happens.

Be thankful for pain? =P

Another thing is, to identify our sicknesses, they can't use a 'one size fits all' kind of method. If you happen to have Symptoms A, B and C, it doesn't mean you have Sickness X.

But of course, we must play our part as a patient too if we want doctors to as accurately narrow down the kind of sickness we are actually contracting. Make sure to describe to the doctors as clearly as we can what we are suffering from.

However, as doctors, they should play their part as well, not just in identifying the sickness and issuing the matching medicine. They can actually enhance the consultation further by asking the patients more relevant questions, and providing some useful facts that will give them a better understanding of what is actually happening in the body.

MAKE YOUR CONSULTATION FEE WORTH. Ask them lots of questions. Prepare beforehand. (Tip from my sec sch Bio teacher =P)

( I used to consult a doctor regarding sinusitis and I think I was overly curious as to how sinusitis come about. He ended up drawing the inner structure of the nose and explaining explicitly. LOL.)

Hmmm... Of course now I have to side the doctors to provide a more balanced view point. Lol... (Learnt from GP teacher lol)

Hmmmmm..... I think... I think... And I think...

Maybe.... Just maybe... Singapore is lack of doctors? Or Singaporeans are always falling sick?? That the doctors have to shorten/hasten each patient's consultation period?

From a newspaper article I read some time ago, the doctors in Singapore are really overworked. And becos of what?? US! The sick people! So I shall not complain further. Hehe. We also can't satisfy everyone right haha.

A lot of times, I wonder if I'm too impulsive or if I'm just too certain of what I want. It's just a fine line between both. Maybe I'm just carefully reckless? (Oxymoron =P)

Like when I decided to pick up piano again after being stagnant (or downhill) for 2 years, I went ahead without second thought and got myself one teacher (thx to Little Giant). And since then, have been faithfully attending every Friday's lesson with the same, if not more, enthusiasm.

And when I decided to pick up cello again, Steph got me a teacher and I proceeded to buy myself a cello, almost drying up my bank account. ='( It hurt. But it's worth it, it's such a beautiful instrument.

Thru Leon, I got into CHPO cos I was dying to play in an orchestra (Not dong dong chiang kind though =P). A vision I got many years ago. Still don't know why Tat Haur allowed me in since I was a total amateur then. "There can be miracle...... When you believe....."

Then I wasn't faithful in attending lessons or practise on my own!!!! And even 'rejected' my cello a few times!!!! Bad and unaccepted behaviour!!! For a while, I was even convinced that I can never be a good cellist.

After conquering numerous torturous mental battles, and praying to God to help me play better... I decided that there's no turning back. Glad that things are slowly improving right now...

Anyway, just received a letter from NUS informing me that I'm short-listed for *gasp* NURSING. (2nd choice) Don't laugh! My dad thought it was a big joke.

He is now telling me what to say during the interview. I hope I don't burst out laughing man.

But yea, it's fine. Cos I've actually thought of becoming one after my O level, just too big a decision to be reckless on that then. =P

Still hope I can get into FASS (1st choice) though.

God is really amazing, cos I was just praying for my uni enrolment 2 nights ago. Gotta keep knocking until the door is open, keep seeking until you find, keep asking until you receive...

Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps...

Sometimes I find myself becoming very calm and nonchalant. Why oh why... It may even spell "dao" to some. (But I hope not) 

A lot of people told me that I'm always in my own world. I guess it's true. Well... It's good to mind our own business right. Perhaps that's just an excuse? My policy has always been this - If I have nothing better to say, just shut up.

However, it doesn't mean that when I am quiet, my mind is filled with negativity... I just have the tendency to withdraw back to my innately introvert self at times. (Bird should know right =P)

Perhaps I'm probably just too used to being in my world? Or perhaps, people just haven't discovered the joy of solitude... Of being so comfortable with yourself, you have no qualm being alone anywhere and presenting to the world the real you.

Perhaps, I should step out of my comfort zone? But perhaps, it's better to be myself?

Hehehe.  A very productive Monday~

Skipped lunch and dinner due to time constraint lol... Busy at work and had to go down to NAFA for cello lesson (I finally went) at night. There was a Quartet performance before lesson so I sneaked in during a short break to watch. Steph was there too! Lol...

Lesson was real refreshing after 1 month of disappearance. Teacher commented that I've improved!!! I told him honestly that I haven't been practicing though. Only until last night when I was suddenly so engrossed in playing (maybe due to the new tuner) that I practiced for 2 hours till 1.20am Lol... Totally lost track of time man... (and I really dislike any interruption during practices...)

We played duet! Nice!! But gotta learn to relax my body when playing and not tense up. And still have to learn to play with my bow perpendicular to the strings...

It's back to the basics again and again... Playing scales over and over again... Practice makes perfect! Yea!

Said something which sounded very wrong... "I keep playing on my G string!" Lol... Oops. So must also learn how to bow only on 1 string and not hit neighbouring strings.

And if there's something like a favourite note, mine would be "G". Cos it sounds very soothing to me.

Loving Cello more and more! =) Hope to improve at a faster rate from now on...

Finally bought a TUNER.... (Thx Marilyn for the help)  My intonation on the cello should only get better from now. Nearly gave up in the beginning when I joined CHPO, gotta thank my stubbornness. I only gave myself 1 choice, that is, to improve. MUST.

Have been ponning lessons for a month already though. Lol. I must gai guo zi xin and resume next week. Waha... Must!

It's more worth buying CDs than books I think, cos I can listen to it a hundred times and still like it. Don't remember ever reading a book twice though. =P

So happy to see him and vice versa. He wanted to treat us to the whole canteen. Lol. In the end we had ice cream while he talked and talked for almost an hour. He really loves talking. 

While telling us about his present life in JJ, he stood and went over to a guy who was bouncing a bball. As expected, he SHOUTED at him to stop bouncing. After which he came back to our table and continue his monologue. Lol. Talk about randomness.

He inforced his topic on the Art of Scolding (Ma ren de yi su) to us again as we listened patiently. LOL...  Once his students, always his students!!!! He actually welcomed us back to attend his lectures! Anybody interested? Hehe.

Drop by JJ to visit if you're free!!!!!!! I could feel the warm JJ spirit muaha. Even the canteen vendors remembered us! And the friendly drink store auntie even offered us drinks! Hehe. Chatted up with the security guard too at the gate as we were leaving... Everyone was so approachable and friendly!

It was fun to the max. Think it was our best so far too. Glad that everything went well. NO BOMBS!

I woke up on Sunday morning 6am feeling like the happiest person on planet Earth. Lol. Glad that one of my dreams became a reality. NEVER GIVE UP. Keep going against all odds. Accept criticisms with an open heart. NEVER DESPISE THE DAYS OF SMALL BEGINNING.

(Hehe ok ok enough...)

The choir was fantastic too. During Sunday's perf on the 3-bar rests for Cello, I actually closed my eyes and listened to the Hebrew part. Aww... It was really sweet. I wished that moment could last longer.

Hope the audience enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed playing.

A Day Gone Wrong

 

Didn't have the strength to face the day. Mentally exhausted I'd say. I need a break to collect back all the pieces of me which I have given out.

Tonight's rehearsal took the remaining remnants of me. Gave my all. Apart from omitting 1 bar and playing an extra note, I think I've improved much more from last week. That was good enough. Kinda made my day a little better...

Me and Marilyn just weren't ourselves tonight. Heh. Well...

Orchestra will once again perform with the adult choir this weekend but only @ Expo. Think it will blow the church off hehe. No doubt, it's been great fun rehearsing. There is a little arrangement in the sitting position of the players... The 3 cellists are now seated in the middle front row, directly under the conductor's nose. 

Hope I won't 'throw bombs' during performance... Eric's stare can dry up every blood vessel in my face.
